Last weekend I hosted a fall-inspired dinner party for my family. There were twelve of us that got together and the company, menu, and decor was pretty great. While I was the main host of the party, my family is really great in that they always offer to chip in to help. I’ve learned years ago to accept help and just appreciate it, versus trying to do everything myself.

This party was sponsored by Food Should Taste Good, as part of my brand ambassadorship with them over the past couple months. If you recall, I’ve posted a couple really tasty dips to accompany their fantastic chips including this easy greek dip and this blt-inspired queso dip.

Tea partyI’m having a pretty normal work week but have been catching up on sleep big time. I put Juliet to bed by reading books to her (she always insists on reading “a looooot of books”) and then I lay with her until she falls asleep. This is a habit we started when she was around one and a half and have not been able to break. I’ll try to leave before she is asleep and she’ll awake immediately and hold her arms out and say “come back” and “momma lay down!!!”. Sometimes I end of falling asleep with her and wake up around 9ish super disoriented. A few times this week I actually fell asleep and never woke up until morning. So I chalked it up to needing the sleep and appreciated those nights I got 10+ hours.

Even though this week is back to normal hours wise for work, I’m still really glad that it’s Friday. I’m so excited for the weekend. Juliet and I are having all the ladies in my family over for a tea party on Saturday morning. We can’t all be together on Mother’s Day so we are celebrating a day early.

So the tea party….well, I’m pretty excited. You all know how much I love brunch and add a tea party theme and I’m totally in my element.

Mexican fiesta{Photos from a Mexican fiesta party I threw for my sister 4 years ago}

My younger brother, Joel and his fiance, Katie are having a co-ed shower (basically just a huge party) on Saturday with a Mexican fiesta theme. Both sides of the family are helping out to make the shower a success. Here are the items I am helping with (along with my sister):

Decorations which will include:
Papel picado
Cylinder vases with lemons and limes
Colorful flowers in Mexican soda bottles and salsa cans

Spring brunchSpring is in the air, right? Well, maybe not so much. But it’s totally in my heart. I am just willing it to come. We need warm weather. It was 10 degrees when I left the house the other day and it. was. cold. Freezing. And something about that just made me angry and put me in a terrible mood. And I wasn’t the only one. All of us in MN are so sick of the cold. Our bones are permanently chilled.

Ok, enough weather talk. Technically it is spring. And if I can’t feel it in the air at least it can be felt through my entertaining endeavors.

One of the easiest ways to entertain is with brunch. Guests are always happy with a glass of champagne in-hand. I think it’s the bubbles, or maybe the fact that they’re drinking before noon. Either way, brunch is awesome and one of my top favorite things ever in life.

I’m thinking of starting a new content feature that is all about “how to’s” when it comes to entertaining. These posts will provide inspiration for hosting your own parties. They’ll include menu ideas, recipes and decorating tips, all in the Eat Drink Pretty style.
